In this directory you will find track information to our guides:

All data is given in GPX-Format. This GPS Exchange Format is an open format, which is used by many GPS systems.
The tracks, which equate to the mapped routes in our guides, are to be found in the GPX file with the corresponding name.

Important information to using the GPS-Tracks:

The tracks which we make available to our customers have either been automatically generated from our cartographic database (cycling guides) or were generated during first-hand surveying of the route (hiking guides). Both contain some inherent anomalies.

Specific limitations include the following:
CYCLING GUIDES:
* The track usually lies in the centre of the roadway, which can lead to large deviations along multi-lane roads. This may also also be the case with roadside bicycle paths.
* Many objects take up more space in the maps than in reality (e.g. freeways). Routes that are displayed alongside such objects have therefore been slightly displaced. This also leads to the GPS tracks being slightly displaced in these sections.
* The oversized rendering of roundabouts and tight road curves in our maps also leads to greater radii in the GPS tracks at these points.
* Very fine structures, such as bicycle path underpasses, are often not correctly displayed in the GPS tracks.

HIKING GUIDES:
* Although we use high quality GPS receivers when surveying hiking routes, the problem of poor reception in certain situations cannot be avoided. Extremely inaccurate positioning occurs due to reflection especially along steep cliff faces. We attempt to increase the accuracy through repeated measurement where possible.

GENERAL:
* We update and improve our routes continually, which on rare occations may lead to slight differences between the GPS track and the route in the guide.
* The tracks are automatically generated from numerous small route segments, which leads to short leaps and zigzags in the track where the segment endpoints do not meet perfectly. We are currently working on a solution to the problem, although it should not cause a navigation problem for the user.
* Periodically we receive corrections to the routes from our customers or tourist organisations which we are not able to survey first hand. These corrections, when verified, are worked into our maps using the information we have at hand and may not show the same accuracy as the routes we have surveyed first hand.
* We currently maintain about 300,000 km of cycling routes and more than 30,000 km of hiking routes in our database. Although we work hard to improve the quality of the routes, rendering errors and inaccuracies cannot be avoided.
